Scott Brown definitely left a lasting legacy at Celtic with his leadership on the field and his contributions to the club’s successes. It’s interesting to see him transition into a coaching role at Aberdeen and now as the manager of Ayr. How do you think his experience at Celtic will influence his approach as a manager?
Scott Brown is undoubtedly one of Celtic’s most iconic players in recent history. He led the club to our second nine-in-a-row, a Quadruple Treble, and an Invincibles Treble, securing his place as a legend in Celtic’s history books.
After leaving Celtic before Ange Postecoglou’s appointment, Brown took on a player/coaching role at Aberdeen and is now the manager of Ayr.
And whilst he admits he was a fan of how Celtic played under the Australian, Brown confesses the real reason why he left the club just before Ange stepped in.
Scott Brown ‘knew’ his time at Celtic was up
The legendary midfielder’s love for Celtic has never been in doubt. Even now he still speaks about the club in glowing terms.
So it is a testament to Brown’s professionalism that he walked away when he did because it must have been hard to admit this when asked if he had regrets about not sticking around to play for Ange.
Brown said [World Football Index], “No, not the slightest because I knew that my time was done.
“I loved Ange’s football and the way that he played but you don’t want to overstay your welcome at any club.
Scott Brown expressed admiration for Ange’s style of football and mentioned that he would have liked to experience a few training sessions under him as a player.
However, he also acknowledged that the demands and pace set by Postecoglou were high. Considering Brown’s experience and leadership qualities, he might have been able to adapt, but it’s uncertain if he could have maintained the same level as younger players like Callum McGregor who excelled under Postecoglou’s management and continue to perform well.
