Marcos Acuña was strongly rumored to leave Sevilla last summer, but ultimately, no move materialized, leading him to stay in Andalusia for a fourth consecutive season.
Aston Villa was among the clubs rumored to be interested in Acuña, and the Argentine left-back himself confirmed that he received an offer from Unai Emery’s side.
In a recent interview with ABC (via MD), he mentioned, “They weren’t just rumors. Sevilla had an important offer (from Villa) that, due to a personal dispute between the president (Jose Castro) and Monchi, was not finalized, and I was the one affected. I don’t think I deserved it because I would have earned a big salary increase, but that’s over now. I’m focused on the remaining games this season.”
Acuña acknowledged the possibility of a potential departure this summer despite his contract with Sevilla running until 2025. He mentioned, “I have a contract until 2025, but I don’t know what will happen. First, I have to accumulate minutes, play games, and then see what’s next.”
